45 Self-Care Ideas

As I’ve mentioned in many of my posts, self-care is pivotal to maintaining your cool as a parent.  You need to take care of yourself because you are worth it.  Yes, your family’s needs are important, but so are yours.  You need to fuel yourself before you can help fuel others.  The beauty of self-care is that it doesn’t have to be extravagant or big.  It can be little things like enjoying a favorite beverage or sitting in the sun. So, I’ve compiled a list of 45 self-care ideas that you could use to brighten your days and give yourself a little extra love.  You deserve it!

  1. Read for fun
  2. Exercise
  3. Light a favorite candle, or otherwise enjoy a pleasant scent
  4. Listen to a podcast
  5. Watch a show
  6. Get a manicure
  7. Get a pedicure
  8. Listen to a TED talk
  9. Buy yourself a piece of clothing that makes you feel awesome
  10. Go for a walk
  11. Schedule a vacation
  12. Turn off your phone during something fun so you can full enjoy the experience
  13. Have a night out with friends or your significant other
  14. Write a gratitude list
  15. Do a “brain dump” – helps to free your mind up for other things
  16. Watch a YouTube video
  17. Learn something new
  18. Make yourself a fancy drink
  19. Wear something that makes you feel good
  20. Do something you love, literally anything that makes you happy
  21. Unschedule something you don’t actually want to do
  22. Write down 5 affirmations – these are statements about your life written as fact, even if they haven’t happened yet (i.e. I’m a successful blogger with 50,000 followers)
  23. Meditate
  24. Focus on your breathing for 2 minutes
  25. Get a massage
  26. Visit a chiropractor or acupuncturist
  27. Hire a housekeeper to deep clean your home
  28. Go to the store/movie theater/coffee shop alone
  29. Take a bath or relaxing shower
  30. Play a game
  31. Journal
  32. Listen to your favorite music
  33. Get a facial
  34. Indulge in a favorite treat
  35. Take a nap
  36. Get nostalgic with some old pictures
  37. Dance like no one’s watching
  38. Sing at the top of your lungs
  39. Sit in the sun and enjoy the warmth
  40. Brighten your living space in some way – hang up a new pictures, buy some schmancy throw pillows
  41. Get your hair done
  42. Make a fort
  43. Get out into nature in a way you’d enjoy
  44. Enjoy a smoothie
  45. Go out to eat and let someone else do the cooking and clean up

This is, of course, is not an all-inclusive list of how you can implement self-care into your days.  However, I’m hoping it provides a jumping-off point for you to start some form of self-care today.
